On August 3, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke at the state burial of the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso in Fort Tenan, Muhoroni. The President's address was a clear rebuke to leaders who use funerals to promote national unity but later engage in hate and divisive politics.

Laboso, who had previously served as Sotik MP from 2008 to 2017, had succumbed to cancer after years of treatment. The occasion was attended by prominent leaders, including DP William Ruto, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Musalia Mudavadi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's words were direct and unambiguous: 'When they are here they preach national unity. Later on you will see them doing the exact opposite of what they are now saying here. We watching you and it is your problem what is coming to befell you.'
