On August 3, 2019, a shocking revelation emerged about the cremation of Ken Okoth, the late Kibra legislator. His mother, Angelina Okoth, was left out of the process, despite her strong opposition to cremation.
Evans Olouch Okoth, Ken's nephew, spoke to Citizen Digital at the Lee Funeral Home on Saturday morning. He revealed that the family had planned to bury Ken at his mother's rural home in Kabondo Kasipul, but the cremation went ahead without her knowledge or consent.
According to Olouch, the family had agreed to transport Ken's body to Kabondo Kasipul on Saturday for a funeral service at Rateng' Secondary School, followed by burial. However, the cremation took place at 1am, leaving Ken's mother and other relatives in the dark.
Olouch denied claims that Ken had wished to be cremated, saying that if it were true, his mother would have known. He also apologized to the country on behalf of Ken's mother for the recent push and pull that led to Anne Thumbi moving to court seeking to be included in the burial plans.
Thumbi and her son were also left out of the cremation process, as agreed earlier. Olouch called upon Thumbi to bring Ken's son to his mother, who he said loves her grandson and wants to embrace him as her grandchild.
