Ken Okoth, the late Kibra MP, was cremated at Kariokor in Nairobi on August 3, 2019, in a private function attended by close family members, as per his wishes.

Edwin Sifuna, Okoth's lawyer, confirmed the cremation, which ended the debate over where to bury him and how to proceed.

Okoth's family had initially planned to transport his body to Homa Bay for a service in Got Rateng, Kabondo Kasipul, but logistical challenges led to a change of plans.

According to Luo traditions, cremation is considered taboo, and there were fears that the funeral service could be marred by chaos.

However, Okoth's will, which stated that he wanted to be cremated, ultimately carried the day.
