Ken Okoth's mother, Angeline Ajwang, has sparked controversy after skipping her son's cremation and planning to bury a banana stem in his place.
According to reports, Okoth's family had planned to cremate him at Keriokor crematorium on August 3, 2019, but Angeline denied giving consent for the cremation, insisting she wanted him buried in their rural home in Homa Bay county.
Okoth's nephew, Elvis Oluoch, claimed that the extended family was left in the dark about the cremation plans and that they had been making arrangements to transport Okoth's body to Homa Bay for burial.
"We only hear that Ken left a Will directing he be cremated upon death. None of our family members has set eyes on that said Will," Oluoch said.
Initial plans had indicated that Okoth would be flown to Homa Bay for viewing before being buried by the family, but these plans were cancelled due to 'logistical issues', according to Okoth's lawyer, Edwin Sifuna.
