On Saturday, August 3, 2019, the remains of late Kibra MP Ken Okoth were cremated in a private ceremony at Nairobi's Kariokor, attended only by family and close friends.

Despite a court order seeking to participate in the interment, Anne Thumbi, who had sought the order, was not present during the event.

According to ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Thumbi's lawyer stated that she and her son with Okoth had opted to skip the event.

The cremation occurred around 10 am, and the body was not transported to Kabondo due to fears that villagers might have buried it by force, contrary to Okoth's will.

As one source privy to the plans noted, 'If the body was taken to Kabondo, villagers could have buried it by force contrary to the legislator's will.'
