Published on August 3, 2019, Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot has accused the courts of trying to frustrate his Punguza Mizigo bill.
Aukot's bill, which aims to reduce the number of MPs from 416 to 147 and abolish the position of Deputy Governor among others, has been met with resistance from the courts.
Justice James Makau of the High Court ruled that the 47 County Assemblies cannot debate and approve the bill until a case filed in court challenging the bill is heard and determined.
The judge also stopped the party from presenting the Bill to the Speaker of the National Assembly until the case is heard.
Speaking in Garissa County, Aukot accused the courts of being used by the political class to settle scores.
He further accused Justice Makau of failing to give any conservatory orders in a petition the Third way alliance had filed against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) over 7 months ago.
