On Friday night, a massive traffic snarl-up occurred on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, leaving many motorists stranded for hours.

According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the cause of the traffic gridlock was the closure of schools for the August holidays, which coincided with the end of the month.

Additionally, the closure of a truck lane near the Gilgil weighbridge further worsened the situation, resulting in a significant increase in traffic volume.

KeNHA issued an advisory to motorists along the Naivasha-Nakuru highway, warning of a traffic snarl-up caused by heavy traffic flow and vehicles overlapping on the road.

As a result, travellers spent the night in traffic, a common occurrence on this road.

KeNHA has since taken steps to direct vehicle flow and alleviate the congestion.
