1. Plan Ahead ¶
Set aside a day or a few hours to dedicate to your hair, and go through the process of what you want to achieve. Get the products ready, and you'll be halfway to a successful wash day.
2. Detangle with Care ¶
Comb out your hair first to reduce tangling and breakage when washing. Use a wide-toothed comb and a detangling product or conditioner to make the process less painful.
3. Pre-Poo for a Healthy Hair ¶
Shampooing can dry out your hair, so infuse it with good oils as you sleep. Coconut oil is a great option to nourish your split ends, moisturize, and tame frizz.
4. Choose the Right Shampoo ¶
Opt for a sulphate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your hair of its natural oils. Consider using a moisturizing shampoo or co-washing instead.
5. Wash in Small Sections ¶
Divide your hair into 4 or more sections, especially if you have thick, curly, or coily hair. This will make the process less time-consuming and less stressful.
6. Check the Water Temperature ¶
Use warm water instead of hot water to clean your hair. Hot water can damage your hair and leave it feeling dry.
7. Air or T-Shirt Dry Your Hair ¶
Allow your hair to air dry or use an old cotton t-shirt to wrap and squeeze out excess water. This will help reduce frizz.
8. Moisturize and Style ¶
On damp hair, apply a leave-in conditioner or natural oil, and style as desired. This will leave your hair moisturized and more manageable.
