Kenya's dream of hosting a World Rally Championship round during the 2020 Safari Rally is taking shape, with a final report to be presented to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in the coming weeks.
WRC Safari Rally Project CEO Phineas Kimathi is in Finland, where he will meet top FIA officials and the WRC Promoter, along with Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed, to compile a final report on last month's Safari Rally.
The report will be presented to the FIA in the next few days, and the Kenyan delegation is optimistic that their bid to return to the WRC will be successful.
Kenya's Safari Rally has been off the WRC radar since 2002, but the country has been working tirelessly to reclaim its status, with President Uhuru Kenyatta setting up the WRC Safari Project last year.
At the end of last month's Safari Rally, WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla gave a thumbs up to the Kenyan round, saying that the memory of the Safari is still alive and that fans around the world have a great appetite for the event.
