On June 2, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's daughter, Saumu Mbuvi Sonko, and Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip were assaulted after leaving a popular high-end bar in Nairobi.
According to a statement recorded at the Kasarani Police Station, Saumu Mbuvi Sonko narrated how she was followed by a man into the washroom and held by the neck suggestively.
Senator Loitiptip later intervened, and the man apologized for his actions. However, a detective claims that Senator Loitiptip used a taser gun to attack the man, leading to a confrontation at the parking lot.
At the parking lot, a gang confronted Senator Loitiptip and hit him with clubs, leaving him severely injured. Saumu Mbuvi Sonko was also injured on her right hand.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a stern warning to his daughter's attackers, accusing state operatives of orchestrating the assault.
Addressing the issue through his Facebook broadcast, Governor Sonko warned the attackers, stating, 'I want to tell the system that you cannot plot evil against people every day.'
He further alleged that an unnamed police officer led the goons who attacked his daughter before Senator Loitiptip intervened to protect her.
Senator Loitiptip is currently admitted at Aga Khan Hospital, fighting for his life after being severely assaulted, leaving him with deep head wounds.
