Manchester United have made history by signing England centre-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City in a record-breaking deal worth around Sh10 billion (£80m).

The 26-year-old defender's move is subject to a medical, which is expected to take place soon.

Maguire becomes Manchester United's third summer signing, following Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, who joined from Crystal Palace and Swansea City respectively.

Maguire made 69 Premier League appearances for Leicester City after joining from Hull City in 2017.

His new deal makes him the world's most expensive defender, surpassing the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

Manchester United had previously shown interest in Maguire but backed away from a deal 12 months ago due to the £70m price tag.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers had expressed his desire to keep Maguire at the club, stating that he had the potential to develop further.

Maguire began his career at Sheffield United in 2011, making 139 league appearances for the Blades before joining Hull City in 2014.

He was part of the Hull City side that earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2016 but left for Leicester City following the Tigers' relegation in 2017.

Maguire made his England debut in August 2017 and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

He becomes one of seven central defenders on the books at Manchester United, joining Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, and Axel Tuanzebe.
