DCI to Test Food Sold in Markets to Combat Cancer ¶
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has announced plans to reopen a food testing laboratory in Kiambu to combat cancer caused by contaminated food.
According to Kinoti, the laboratory will be equipped with advanced machinery to test food for harmful chemicals and will be operational in three months.
Kinoti cited the increasing cases of cancer in the country as the reason for reopening the laboratory, which was previously used to test food for contamination.
"We have a responsibility to fight cancer and we will not allow farmers and traders to use banned chemicals to preserve food," Kinoti said.
He warned farmers and traders who use banned chemicals to preserve food to stop immediately and warned that the DCI will take action against them.
"We will not allow people to consume food that is harmful to their health," Kinoti added.
Kinoti's announcement comes after the Ministry of Health discovered that some meat sold in Nairobi markets contained high levels of chemicals used to preserve it.
