On August 2, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced plans to upgrade the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret to enable medics to train on oncology, as part of the government's renewed fight against cancer.
Speaking during the funeral service of the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, President Kenyatta also noted that additional chemotherapy and radiology labs will be set up in various counties, including Mombasa, Kisumu, Nyeri, Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega, Meru, and Garissa.
These new facilities will include 10 additional chemotherapy centers and three extra radiology centers, located in Garissa, Mombasa, and Nakuru Counties.
As a tribute to the late Bomet Governor, President Kenyatta announced that by September, Longisa Hospital will have a chemotherapy and radiology center.
Other counties set to have cancer centers include Kisii, Nyeri, and Nakuru, while the Kenyatta University Hospital, set to open next month, will also have a cancer center.
