Rachael Shebesh Reveals Joyce Laboso's Final Messages ¶
On August 2, 2019, Rachael Shebesh, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth, and Gender Affairs, revealed the final messages of the late Joyce Laboso, the Governor of Bomet County, to President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and her family.
According to Shebesh, Laboso was hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital in her final days, where she entrusted Shebesh with a message to deliver to her family and leaders.
Shebesh shared that Laboso was deeply concerned about the unity of the Jubilee government and urged leaders to put aside their personal interests and work together for the good of the country.
Laboso emphasized that it was the responsibility of leaders to ensure that women had opportunities in government and that they should not be divided by personal interests.
Shebesh also revealed that Laboso was deeply grateful to her husband, Edwin Abonyo, and often praised him in her final days.
Laboso passed away on July 29, 2019, at the age of 58, after a long battle with cancer. She left behind four children, two of whom were born to her and her husband, while the other two were from her previous marriage.
Laboso will be laid to rest at Fort Ternan, Kisumu County, on August 3, 2019.
