On August 2, 2019, Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) announced that Tuskys Supermarkets had been admitted into the NSE's Ibuka program, a platform that guides companies through the process of listing on the exchange.
The family-owned Tusker Mattresses Limited, operating under the brand Tuskys Supermarkets, had previously hinted at listing on the NSE in 2016 but was hindered by management and ownership disputes.
With 63 stores in Kenya and Uganda, Tuskys Supermarkets has become the region's largest retail chain following the collapse of Nakumatt Supermarkets in 2017.
According to Tuskys Supermarkets Chief Dan Githua, the company aims to list on the NSE in 2020 to raise funds for regional expansion.
As the fifteenth company to join the Ibuka program since its launch in December 2018, Tuskys Supermarkets will benefit from the program's guidance and support in its listing process.
