On Friday, a Nairobi resident took a bold step by moving to court to seek an end to the production, supply, and use of tobacco products in Kenya.
The petitioner, Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, argued that cancer is a tobacco-related ailment and that cigarettes contribute significantly to the cancer epidemic in the country.
He further sought to have the disease declared a national disaster, which would necessitate special administrative action.
The petition was filed under a certificate of urgency, indicating the seriousness of the matter.
