Young Climate Activists Push Democrats to the Left ¶
As the 2020 presidential election heats up, many Democrats are eager to find a candidate who can defeat President Donald Trump and protect the planet from environmental disaster. However, liberal activists, party officials, and even some candidates disagree on how far left the party should go to achieve these goals.
At the forefront of this debate are the young, liberal activists of the Sunrise Movement, who are aggressively pushing for revolutionary measures to combat climate change. Alongside Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, they are advocating for the Green New Deal, a groundbreaking climate-change plan.
However, not everyone is convinced that radical policies are the way forward. Some party loyalists warn that these measures may jeopardize their chances of beating Trump, who has mocked the threat of climate change in the past.
As the Democratic Party grapples with this dilemma, one thing is clear: the outcome will have a significant impact on the party's – and the country's – future.
