Kenya Forest Service has embarked on a major staff reshuffle aimed at bolstering conservation efforts nationwide. The move, which affects over 50 senior officers, has seen them redeployed to new roles with immediate effect.
According to a memo signed by Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau, Jerome Mwanzia Mutemba has been confirmed as the project manager for the green zones development project at the headquarters. Simon Kimani Wahome, currently the head of conservancy Coast, has taken over as head of conservancy area coordination.
Other notable deployments include Hussein Maalim Noor, who has been confirmed as project manager for the national tree planting campaign project, and Francis Kariuki, who will head the conservancy in Nairobi. Jim Okuto has been deployed as head of Western conservancy, while George Ndungu will act as the head of Mau conservancy.
Andrew Cheruiyot has been deployed as head of the coast conservancy, and John Mukora will head the Ewaso North conservancy. Peter Kioko, Jafferson Mwalaa, James Omare, Ann Nyaoke, Francis Misonge, have been deployed to various counties to take over as ecosystem conservators.
On a related note, Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau has urged forest adjacent communities to embrace forest conservation and a tree planting culture to combat climate adversity.
Mr. Kamau made the call during a tour of South West Mau Forest Ecosystem to assess the rehabilitation of degraded forests in Bomet County. He reassured the community of his commitment towards the signing of Forest Management Agreements (FMA) for the respective Participatory Forest Management Plan.
