Edwin Abonyo, the husband of late Governor Joyce Laboso, delivered a heartfelt eulogy at her funeral mass in Bomet on August 2, 2019. The occasion was a celebration of her life, and Abonyo's speech was a testament to their enduring love.

Abonyo, a contractor, began by sharing their 36-year journey together, which started in 1983 when they met. He recalled how Laboso was a beautiful young lady with a good heart, and how she never loved opulence and drama. The couple had two biological children, but took in more, and Abonyo acknowledged that many have commented on his emotional strength.

Abonyo's speech was filled with laughter, smiles, and jokes, which was a departure from the usual somber mood of a funeral. He occasionally referred to President Uhuru Kenyatta as 'Uhuru' and Deputy President William Ruto as 'William', which was a reflection of their close relationship. Abonyo also shared how Laboso was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1991, and how they were gutted by the news.

Abonyo's final message to Laboso was a poignant one, as he said, "She was beautiful when I met her and still is in the coffin." He also pointed out that nothing had changed from the time they married up to now, and that Laboso was still beautiful in the coffin. Abonyo's speech was a tribute to their love, and a celebration of Laboso's life.
