Benefits of Breastfeeding for Mothers

  • Effective as a contraceptive method during the first 6 months if the mother is frequently and exclusively breastfeeding, day and night, and if her menses/period has not returned.
  • Helps mothers space births and regain their health after childbirth.
  • Immediate breastfeeding after birth facilitates the expulsion of the placenta due to the baby's suckling, which stimulates uterine contractions.
  • Reduces the risk of bleeding after delivery.
  • Stimulates breast milk production and satisfies the mother when the baby is immediately breastfed after birth.
  • Prevents engorgement through immediate and frequent suckling.
  • Reduces the mother's workload, as there is no need to prepare formula or spend time gathering fuel.
  • Provides a convenient, clean, and nutritious source of food that is always available and at the right temperature.
  • Stimulates a close bond between mother and baby.
  • Is an economical option, as formula costs a lot of money and non-breastfed babies are often sick, resulting in additional healthcare costs.
  • Reduces the risks of breast and ovarian cancer.
