On August 1, 2019, police in Eldoret launched a dramatic raid on a palatial house in Elgon View Estate, seizing over Sh100 million in fake local and foreign currencies.
The house, owned by Peter Sitati, a politician who lost the 2017 Webuye West parliamentary seat election, was raided after a woman filed a complaint alleging that Mr. Sitati had conned her Sh600,000.
Police found the fake currency in the form of Kenyan shillings, Euros, and United States dollars.
The caretaker of the house was arrested during the raid, but Mr. Sitati and his female accomplice remain at large as investigations continue.
