On August 2, 2019, a court in Nairobi heard that the mother and widow of late Kibra MP Ken Okoth had consented to include Anne Thumbi, his secret lover, in burial arrangements.
Angeline Ajwan'g, the MP's mother, and Monica Okoth, his widow, told the court that Anne would be allowed to collect DNA samples to confirm the paternity of her 3-year-old son with the late MP.
The court ordered that the DNA sample be obtained by 4pm on the same day, after which cremation of the late MP would proceed in accordance with his wishes.
Earlier, Anne Thumbi had obtained a court order to stop the burial or cremation of the late MP, citing that she had not been recognized as the child's mother.
However, the court adopted a consent signed by Monica Okoth and Anne Thumbi, agreeing to the DNA testing and cremation.
