On August 2, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta received a unique gift at State House, Nairobi – four peacocks from his Tanzanian counterpart, President John Pombe Magufuli.

The ornamental birds were delivered by Tanzania High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Pindi Hazara Chana, who also conveyed a goodwill message from President Magufuli.

According to President Magufuli, the peacocks were a token of deep respect and appreciation for President Kenyatta, who had recently visited Tanzania.

Speaking at the event, President Kenyatta expressed his gratitude and appreciation to President Magufuli, saying the peacocks represented the values of love, unity, and brotherhood between the people of the two countries.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Kenya, I receive this special gift. This is in the spirit of brotherhood and friendship of the East African residents,” the President said.

He emphasized the importance of unity between the two nations, stating that Kenya considers Tanzania as a sister republic with shared aspirations for a prosperous region.

President Kenyatta assured the Tanzanian delegation that Kenya would ensure the peacocks received great care to ensure the pride grew.

Present during the event were several high-ranking government officials, including Health CS Sicily Kariuki and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
