Published on August 2, 2019, members of the Kieleweke team, opposed to William Ruto's presidential bid, have intensified their campaigns in Murang'a to counter their opponents' gains.
Legislators from Murang'a in the Kieleweke team include Muturi Kigano of Kangema, Joseph Nduati of Gatanga, and Ruth Mwaniki of Kigumo. The area woman representative, Sabina Chege, recently joined the bandwagon, while Senator Irungu Kangata is observing the developments from the sidelines.
At a recent rally in Kangema constituency, Muturi and Mwaniki led the Kieleweke squad in criticizing Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, stating that premature campaigns hinder the attainment of the government's development agenda.
They argued that putting the country into election mode is like disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is rooting for the implementation of his Big Four agenda. The MPs also castigated their Jubilee colleagues who are busy campaigning for 2022, saying they should focus on delivering development promises made to their constituents before their election in 2017.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, who was present at the rally, said leaders engaging in early campaigns create divisions, making it difficult to attain development programs. He accused some leaders from Mount Kenya of disrespecting Uhuru's directive to shun premature campaigns.
