On Friday, a court will make a crucial decision on the bail terms of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is facing fraud charges over irregular tenders worth Sh588 million.
Published on August 2, 2019, at 11:17 am, the court's ruling will determine whether Waititu's bail terms can be reduced and some of the orders lifted, including a ban on him setting foot in his office.
Waititu, along with his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u and six others, secured their release on Thursday after paying a Sh15 million cash bail.
However, two other accused persons, Luka Mwangi and Charles Chege, remain at the Industrial Area Remand prison.
A stand-off is brewing in Kiambu, with allies of Deputy Governor James Nyoro at odds with those of Waititu over the running of county affairs, particularly the chairing of Cabinet meetings.
"The meetings that the acting governor has been chairing do not qualify to be called official Cabinet meetings," said Karungo wa Thangw'a, a close ally of Waititu.
"We are deliberating on when to have our formal Cabinet meeting outside the county headquarters as the court ruled and it will be headed by Governor Ferdinand Waititu," Thangw'a added.
Meanwhile, County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga has warned of potential chaos at the county headquarters, but assured that necessary security arrangements have been made.
