On August 1, 2019, a Nairobi court intervened in the burial plans of late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, halting the interment process at the request of his alleged second wife, Anne Thumbi.
Thumbi, a nominated ward representative in Nairobi, sought recognition of her five-year-old child as Okoth's biological son and inclusion in the burial plans.
Lawyer Elkanah Mogaka, representing Thumbi, stated outside the Milimani Law Courts that negotiations with Okoth's extended family had been unsuccessful, with the family denying Thumbi a place in Okoth's obituary.
"My client wants to protect her son's legacy. She only wishes to have her child acknowledged as the MP's son and to be part of the funeral and burial plans," Mogaka said.
Magistrate Grace Mmasi agreed to temporarily halt the funeral plans until the case is heard and determined, with the next court date set for August 9, 2019.
