Published on August 2, 2019, Sudan's military council has taken swift action against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) following recent violence in Omdurman and El-Obeid.
Lieutenant General Shams El Din Kabbashi, the military council's spokesman, announced on Friday that nine RSF soldiers have been dismissed and detained in connection with the violence.
The governor of North Kordofan state and its security council will be held accountable for the killing of six people, including four schoolchildren, in the state capital El-Obeid on Monday.
Opposition medics reported that four protesters were killed and many injured by gunfire in Omdurman on Thursday, prompting hundreds of thousands to take to the streets in response to the killings.
The military council's move comes as negotiations with opposition groups over a constitutional declaration, a document that would pave the way for a transitional government, continue.
