Friday is a critical day for Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu as the court rules on his application to review bail terms.
Waititu, along with his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u and six others, was released on bail on Thursday after securing their freedom.
The court will determine whether it can reduce Waititu's bail terms and lessen some of the orders, including a ban on him setting foot in his office.
Two other accused persons, Luka Mwangi and Charles Chege, remain at the Industrial Area Remand prison, with Mwangi required to deposit a cash bail of Sh15 million to secure his release.
Meanwhile, a stand-off is brewing in Kiambu between allies of Deputy Governor James Nyoro and those of Waititu over the running of county affairs.
Deputy Governor Nyoro temporarily took over the reins on Monday, but Waititu's allies claim he is not entitled to chair Cabinet meetings.
According to Karungo wa Thangw'a, a close ally of Waititu, the court only barred the governor from conducting county affairs at the headquarters.
Thangw'a stated that Waititu will chair a meeting with county executives later this week or early next week, but did not disclose the location.
“The meetings that the acting governor has been chairing do not qualify to be called official Cabinet meetings. There are structures for a Cabinet meeting. They are only called by the county secretary on orders from the chairman, who in this case is the governor,” said Thangw'a.
Waititu's sympathizers may cause chaos at the county headquarters, according to County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga, who has made necessary security arrangements.
Biashara MCA Elijah Njoroge has announced plans to file a motion to impeach the governor.
