Woodstock 50's organizers were dealt a crushing blow when they failed to secure a permit for a horse racing track in Vernon, New York, just 35 miles east of Syracuse.
The town's Code Enforcement Office rejected four permit applications, citing insufficient traffic, parking, and security plans, as well as a 'worthless' public safety plan.
Despite the setback, organizers made a last-ditch effort to save the festival, contacting Seth Hurwitz, an independent promoter in Washington, D.C., who offered them the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, on the condition that they could confirm a lineup.
However, the damage had already been done, and the festival was ultimately canceled.
As Hurwitz noted in an email interview, 'It won't be another Fyre Fest,' but the festival's organizers were unable to recover from the setbacks.
