Published on August 2, 2019, the IAAF has welcomed a Swiss court decision that effectively ruled Caster Semenya out of the world championships in Doha.
The governing body of world athletics cited the need for "parity and clarity" in their statement, following the Swiss Federal Tribunal's (SFT) reversal of a ruling that temporarily lifted the IAAF's testosterone regulations imposed on Semenya.
On September 28-October 6, the world championships will take place in Doha, and Semenya, the Olympic 800 meters champion, will not be competing due to the IAAF's regulation that middle-distance female runners with high natural levels of testosterone must take medication to reduce it.
"This decision creates much-needed parity and clarity for all athletes as they prepare for the world championships in Doha this September," the IAAF said in a statement.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had previously ruled that the IAAF's regulations were necessary for athletes with differences in sexual development (DSDs) to ensure fair competition.
However, Semenya is appealing the CAS ruling at the SFT and has stated that she does not wish to take medication to change who she is and how she was born, and wants to compete naturally.
