On July 31, 2019, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga appeared before the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee to address audit queries at Parliament. The governor's nominees to the County Public Service Board have come under scrutiny, with residents expressing concerns over their ages and competence.
Of the six nominees, ages range from 54 to 78, sparking concerns that Governor Rasanga may have prioritized loyalty over merit. Central Alego MCA Leonard Oriaro has vowed to oppose the list in the House, labeling it 'anti-youth and Persons Living with Disabilities'.
Resident Clifford Oketch has also petitioned MCAs to reject the list, urging the governor to select fresh nominees. 'Do we lack young personnel to fit into the positions? Why appoint people who should be retiring,' Oketch posed.
However, Governor Rasanga's spokesman, Jerry Ochieng', defended the nominees, stating that they met the requirements. 'The executive advertised for the positions and those who felt qualified had the chance to apply. It's as simple,' Ochieng' said.
