On August 2, 2019, SWVL and BRCK announced a partnership that would bring free WiFi to SWVL buses, courtesy of BRCK's Moja WiFi project.
Launched in 2017, Moja WiFi aims to provide free internet access to consumers, as well as a platform for creators to share their work and for organizations to target specific locations with their ads.
However, as someone who uses SWVL frequently, the author of this article remains skeptical about the value of free WiFi on buses, citing the lack of users connecting to the service and the failure of previous free WiFi initiatives in Kenya, such as Safaricom's VUMA ONLINE and Google's WAZI WIFI.
It's worth noting that connecting to public WiFi networks, including Moja WiFi, can expose users to potential security risks, including the collection of personal data.
As the author concludes, only time will tell if this partnership will be successful in bringing free WiFi to SWVL buses.
