Laikipia County came alive with the sound of classic cars as the 2019 Top Fry Classic Rally got underway on August 1, 2019, at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nyeri County.
Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Mureithi flagged off a total of 24 classic cars, which included Porsche Carreras, Datsuns 240Zs, Triumph TRN8s, Fords Escort MK2s, and Ford Mustangs.
"As Laikipians, we are excited to host such a big rallying event. It affords us an opportunity to showcase our county to the world and what it has to offer," Governor Ndiritu said.
Top drivers, including last year's winner Baldev Chager, navigated through the uniquely stunning expanses of Northern Kenya, covering a total distance of 276.23 km over five days.
Carl 'Flash' Tundo, navigated by Tim Jessop, was second off the ramp, followed by South African Geof Bell co-driven by Tim Challen in a Team Magnum Cream Lique Datsun 240Z.
The rally action is expected to take five days, with the cars covering various sections of the Laikipia plains.
