On August 1, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured the nation that the government would take urgent action to address the growing crisis of cancer-related deaths in the country.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting at State House in Nairobi, President Kenyatta emphasized the need for collective action to prevent and treat cancer, working closely with county governments and partners.
"We need to see what more we can do to assist both in prevention but also in treatment of the disease. And we need to do that as a Government together with the county governments," President Kenyatta said.
He acknowledged the recent loss of Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso and Kibra MP Ken Okoth to cancer, and called for a moment of silence in their honour.
President Kenyatta's remarks came as the country grapples with the growing burden of cancer, which he described as a crisis that requires urgent attention.
