Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made headlines on Thursday during the memorial service of late Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth at Moi Girls School in Nairobi.

Speaking at the event, Sonko addressed reports that Okoth had sired a child outside his marriage with his Italian wife Monica, saying he has two wives himself.

According to Sonko, the country's law allows a man to have more than one spouse, and he cited President Uhuru Kenyatta's passing of a Bill allowing men to marry many wives as evidence.

However, Sonko's only known wife is Primrose Mbuvi, leaving many questioning the authenticity of his claims.

During the service, Sonko also claimed that he was aware that Okoth had a second wife, with whom they had a son together.

He referred to Ms. Anne Muthoni Thumbi, who has since obtained court orders stopping Okoth's burial or cremation, claiming that Okoth's family had unilaterally decided to cremate the body to destroy any evidence of the boy's lineage.

The matter will be heard on August 9th, 2019 before Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Addah Obura.
