On August 1, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made a stunning revelation about his relationship with the late Nairobi MP Ken Okoth during a funeral service for the latter.
According to Sonko, Ken Okoth had requested him to nominate his second wife, Anne Muthoni Thumbi, as a member of the Nairobi County Assembly in 2017, out of respect for the late MP.
"I nominated Anne Muthoni Thumbi as a member of the Nairobi County Assembly in 2017, at the request of the late Ken Okoth. I did it out of respect for him. I knew they had a son, a boy, whom Okoth was very fond of, and today his son has been buried," Sonko said.
However, Muthoni had been opposing the burial of Okoth, insisting that her son be recognized by the family before her father was laid to rest.
Additionally, the court had suspended the burial plans, with the case expected to be heard again on August 9, 2019.
There has been controversy over whether Okoth's body would be buried in their home county of Homa Bay or his body would be cremated in Nairobi.
