Kenya has made history by becoming the latest oil-exporting country in the world, following the successful completion of its first crude oil export deal.
According to President Uhuru Kenyatta, the country sold 200,000 barrels of oil at a price of KSh 1.2 billion.
Speaking after a meeting with Cabinet secretaries on August 1, 2019, the President emphasized that the government will make good use of the proceeds from the exports to improve the lives of Kenyans.
Uhuru reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the resources are used prudently and to the benefit of all Kenyans.
He also used the occasion to express his concern over the increasing cases of cancer in the country, noting that the government is investing in preventative measures and exploring ways to ensure patients are identified on time and given good treatment.
As part of the tribute to those who have succumbed to cancer, the President led the Cabinet in a moment of silence to honour Kibra MP Ken Okoth and Bomet governor Joyce Laboso.
