On August 1, 2019, Nicolas Pepe, a 24-year-old Ivorian winger, made history by becoming Arsenal's record signing in a deal valued at £72m.
Pepe, who had netted 22 goals and supplied 11 assists in Ligue 1 the previous season, penned a five-year deal with the Gunners, marking the end of his five-year stint at LOSC Lille.
Speaking to the media after signing, Pepe expressed his emotions, saying: “Being here is very emotional because it has not been easy for me. I have come a long way and struggled a lot and so signing for this great club is a big reward,”
He also revealed that his decision to join Arsenal was influenced by his family and agents, who had a crucial role in his decision-making process.
Pepe's move to Arsenal was confirmed on the club's official website, with the winger undergoing a mandatory medical in London before finalizing the deal.
