Uhuru's Jamaica Visit Sparks Marijuana Jokes ¶
President Uhuru Kenyatta's scheduled visit to Jamaica has sparked a wave of jokes on social media, with many Kenyans speculating about the potential legalization of marijuana in Kenya.
According to State House, President Kenyatta is scheduled to visit Jamaica next week to explore opportunities for enhanced bilateral relations.
However, the news has been met with jokes and memes on social media, with many Kenyans referencing Jamaica's reputation for marijuana use.
Some have even joked that President Kenyatta will return from Jamaica with a new hairstyle and a Jamaican accent.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has also weighed in on the issue, saying that ODM will take up the bill to legalize marijuana in Kenya.
“On the issue of medical marijuana, mesikia hilo jukumu wamepatia Babu Owino. Mimi hata nataka huwa mswada uwe wa chama cha ODM ili tuweze kutimiza malengo yake. Hata ras abebe Matiang’i labda akirudi atakuwa ametulia kidogo,” said Mr. Sifuna.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has also hinted that the President might get Jamaica to start exporting marijuana to Kenya.
“Huyu ndugu yetu alikua na mswada wa maana sana… alitaka kulegalise marijuana ama bhangi. Tunaskia bhangi iko na dawa ya Cancer… na meneaona rais anaenda Jamaica, na ikipitishwa tutahakikisha bhangi safi inakuja kutoka Jamaica kama ndio italeta dawa ya Cancer,” said Mr. Sonko.
