Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club Bandari FC has strengthened its technical bench with the appointment of former Bungoma Superstars tactician Ibrahim Shikanda as its assistant coach.
Shikanda, a former Kenyan international, joined head coach Bernard Mwalala in the technical bench after Bandari edged National Super League (NSL) side Coast Stima in a friendly match.
According to Shikanda, his main role will be to help tighten up the defence, a position he is familiar with, having been a defender himself.
“I was a defender and am here to help Bandari’s back line towards the team goal,” Shikanda said.
Shikanda has also coached Nairobi Stima and Azam FC of Tanzania, where he was an assistant coach from 2008 to 2013.
He was earlier targeted by Sony Sugar FC, who lost their coach, but ultimately joined Bandari FC.
Bandari played its first local friendly against Coast Stima, winning 1-0 through Yema Mwana’s goal at their Mbaraki backyard.
Shikanda expressed confidence in the team’s preparation for the CAF Confederation Cup, stating that everything is on point and that his collaboration with the technical bench will bring positive results.
