Published on August 1, 2019, a photo of Deputy President William Ruto's wife, Rachel, shaking her husband's hand has sparked a heated debate on social media.
The photo, taken at the DP's residence in Karen, shows Mrs. Ruto leaning forward while shaking her husband's hand, with her left hand placed on top of his.
However, the DP appears distracted, seemingly making no eye contact with his wife.
Netizens have weighed in with varied views on the photo, with some suggesting it's Mrs. Ruto's signature handshake style, while others have questioned the DP's behavior.
As seen in the photos shared by blogger Dennis Itumbi, Mrs. Ruto has greeted prominent leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, former president Mwai Kibaki, Pope Benedict XVI, and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, in the same manner.
Some Kenyans have taken to social media to express their opinions on the matter, with one user asking, 'But how does your wife greet you the way a student does to a high school principal?'
Another user added, 'How do you greet your husband like that as if he is a stranger to you?'
Meanwhile, a third user jokingly asked, 'Is (mama) Rachel from Uganda?'
