Senator Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi has called on Jubilee and ODM parties to unite behind a single candidate in the Kibra by-election.
The Kibra constituency seat has been left vacant following the death of former MP Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019, due to cancer.
During a memorial service for Okoth, Sakaja emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and unity in the country, citing Okoth's support for the peace message between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Sakaja also requested that Jubilee party drop its candidate and instead support the one chosen by ODM, in a bid to promote peace and unity.
"Ken supported the peace message between Raila and Odinga with all his heart, and to strengthen this, it would be good for his party to nominate a candidate who every politician, regardless of their party affiliation, would support," Sakaja said.
He further added, "I request that Jubilee party nominates its candidate and instead supports the one chosen by ODM, so that my opponent Edwin Sifuna and I can campaign together as one of the ways to promote peace and unity."
