On Wednesday night, a 30-year-old man in Kakamega East committed a heinous act, hacking his 80-year-old father to death with a hoe over a plate of ugali and roasted maize.

The incident occurred in Shiswa village, Muranda location, where the suspect had earlier dug a grave in the family compound after a previous disagreement with his father.

According to neighbours, the suspect had threatened to kill his father and bury him in the grave earlier this year over an undisclosed issue.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is still on the run.

Sub-county police commander Robert Makau confirmed the incident, stating that police are investigating the matter.

"We are doing everything to bring the suspect to book because of the heinous act he has committed," said Makau.

Neighbours also reported that the suspect had been engaging in suspicious activities, including stealing items from their neighbours.

Shinyalu deputy Sub-County commissioner Mofat Moseti visited the scene and coordinated the transportation of the body to the County General and Referral Hospital mortuary.
