Ken Okoth, the late Kibra MP, passed away on Friday last week at Nairobi Hospital due to Colorectal cancer. His wife and mother are now at odds over his burial, with his wife wanting him cremated and his mother insisting on a traditional burial.
Ann Muthoni, Okoth's second wife, has obtained a court order stopping the burial until August 9, when the dispute will be heard. Muthoni claims that Okoth's last wishes included cremation, and that she has a son with him who should be recognized as his biological child.
The court order was issued by Senior Principal Magistrate GA Mmasi, and Muthoni's lawyer, Elkana Mogaka Thumbi, has sued Okoth's mother, Angeline Okoth, and wife, Monica Okoth, along with Lee funeral home.
The dispute has been ongoing since it emerged that Okoth's last wishes were not respected by his family. The Weekly Citizen reported on the story on August 1, 2019.
