Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been summoned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of making public utterances against Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.
The summons comes after the EACC received complaints regarding Sonko's comments against Passaris during a public event on May 1, 2019, at Pumwani Grounds, as well as allegations of unpaid per diem for a trip Passaris attended in New York in March 2018.
According to the EACC letter, Sonko is required to record a statement to facilitate investigations into the matter.
Responding to the summons, Sonko stated, 'I will be honouring the said summons by individually presenting myself to Integrity Centre.'
He also clarified that his administration had paid for Passaris' air ticket to New York and Vienna prior to the trip.
However, Sonko emphasized that he is ready to step aside if the EACC determines that he has a case to answer regarding the allegations.
He warned cartels that he will continue to monitor projects initiated during his tenure, even in his absence.
