Chelsea's promising pre-season campaign has been marred by defensive struggles, with the team shipping in three goals in each of their recent victories over Barcelona, Reading, and Salzburg.
As the Blues prepare to face Manchester United in their 2019-2020 Premier League opener, boss Frank Lampard has sounded alarm over his side's leaky defense.
"We want to concede zero goals, so it is a concern and we want to improve on it," Lampard said after the Salzburg victory.
Chelsea's defensive woes have been a recurring theme in their pre-season campaign, with the team conceding three goals in each of their wins over Barcelona and Salzburg.
Lampard has hailed club new signing Christian Pulisic, who scored a brace against Salzburg, but believes the team must improve defensively ahead of the new season.
"I was very impressed with the way that he took the goals. As a winger in the Premier League, he has to adapt to that league," Lampard noted.
Chelsea will conclude their pre-season schedule against Borussia Monchengladbach before opening their EPL campaign against Manchester United.
