Published on August 1, 2019, Kisumu — The Sh4.1 billion Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall in Kisumu has been at the center of controversy, with its opening delayed due to ongoing investigations.
The mall, located at Mamboleo along Kisumu Kakamega road, was completed in 2013 but has yet to be opened to the public.
Edger Odoyo, a member of the group 'Operation the Mall', said that despite the investigations, the mall should be opened to allow business people who had already paid for spaces to conduct their activities.
Odoyo praised local leaders who have raised the issue in the Senate and National Assembly, saying they have brought attention to the matter.
Erick Okello, another member of the group, emphasized the need for the mall to be opened, citing the lack of space for businesspeople in the lakeside city.
