Mohan Galot, founder of London Distillers, was charged with nine forgery counts in a legal dispute over control of family-owned businesses, including Galot Industries and King Woolen Mills. The case centers on allegations that he fabricated documents to alter directorship records between 2001 and 2006.
The Nairobi Magistrate’s Court heard that Galot, 58, is accused of falsifying a 2002 notification claiming his nephews Pravin and Rajesh Galot had resigned as directors of King Woolen Mills Limited in 2001—a date he knew to be false. He also allegedly submitted altered annual returns for 2006 and provided false information to the Registrar of Companies in 2002.
Galot denied the charges and was released on a Ksh 1 million bond after appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko. The case, initiated following a High Court directive, will proceed to pre-trial on April 18 and a hearing on June 26. Narendra Galot is listed as the complainant, with Pravin Galot as a prosecution witness.
London Distillers, known for brands like Napoleone Whisky and Meakins Vodka, operates across real estate, beverages, and textiles. The legal battle involves multiple entities under the Galot family’s multi-billion-shilling empire.
