On August 1, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made a shocking revelation about the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth's personal life.
Addressing mourners at Moi Girls High School during Ken's memorial service, Sonko stated that Ken had a son with a nominated Nairobi County Assembly Member, Anne Thumbi, also known as Anita.
According to Sonko, Ken and Anne were in a relationship and had a son together. He also revealed that Ken had been in touch with Anne and their son, even after his health began to deteriorate.
However, Ken's mother had earlier denied that he had a child, stating that he was married but childless.
Sonko went on to detail Ken's secret family, stating that the late MP had a son with Anne Thumbi and that they had been open about their relationship.
He also revealed that he had helped Anne and their son travel to Paris to visit Ken when he was hospitalized, but the trip was aborted when Ken returned to Kenya.
As Nairobi Governor, Sonko appealed to Ken's family to accept his son and recognize his legal rights, stating that the child had a right to participate in his father's send-off.
