On August 1, 2019, the High Court issued a temporary injunction halting the cremation of Kibra MP Ken Okoth, who passed away on July 26, 2019, after a long battle with colorectal cancer.
The move came after Anne Muthoni Thumbi, the woman with whom Okoth sired a son, filed a lawsuit demanding recognition of their 5-year-old child as his biological son.
Thumbi is suing Okoth's family members, including his alleged first wife Angelina Okoth and second wife Monica Okoth, as well as the Lee Funeral Home, which was handling the late MP's burial arrangements.
According to court documents, the judge directed Thumbi to serve the respondents before the hearing of the case scheduled for August 9, 2019.
During Okoth's memorial service, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claimed that the late MP had a second wife and a child, and demanded that Okoth's family should recognize the child.
